Pera Labs: Bringing Artificial Intelligence to IVF Treatment

At Pera Labs, we have developed an AI-powered sperm analysis device designed for use in in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatments. One in five couples worldwide turns to IVF, and the increasing trend of couples opting to have children at later ages is further complicating IVF treatments, which already have a low success rate of around 30%.

Mutations in a father’s DNA occur every 8 months, and these accumulate and increase every year in sperm. However, current technologies do not offer an automated sperm DNA quality analysis. SPERMAN, the world’s first and only automated sperm analysis device capable of both analyzing and separating sperm, performs sperm analysis at 5 times the speed and with 2 times greater accuracy compared to existing methods. This medical device will increase the weekly sperm test numbers at IVF centers by 9 times and reduce the cost of tests by a factor of 10.

Our goal is to solve the time-consuming, difficult, and highly variable results of sperm analysis, shorten IVF treatment durations, and reduce the financial burden on couples trying to conceive.

In the Big Bang 2019, we received the 20,000 Euro cash Rockstart Award.
