About This Project

TRD Biotek is a project focused on obtaining synthetic seeds by encapsulating somatic embryos produced through tissue culture techniques.

The main goal of the project is to produce affordable and pathogen-free garlic planting material. With the targeted synthetic seed production, the initiative aims to improve the livelihood of garlic farmers by enabling the production of pathogen-free, clonally propagated garlic that meets the required size and quality standards for seed material.

TRD Biotek won a 50,000 TL ISO Special Award, a 50,000 TL ITU ARI Teknokent Special Award, and a 30,000 TL Ege Kimya Special Award at ITU Çekirdek BIG BANG 2015. The project also received 150,000 TL in TÜBİTAK funding under the BİGG ITU Çekirdek program.
