About This Project
Meşk Music Technologies: Revolutionizing Music Education with Technology
Founded in 2018 with the support of TÜBİTAK at İTÜ ARI Teknokent, Meşk Music Technologies is an R&D company focused on music education and technologies. The company was established by Ruşen Can Acet and Yalçın Öksüz and consists of a multidisciplinary team of engineers, musicians, designers, and academics. The mobile application currently being developed by the Meşk team allows users to learn how to play musical instruments in an enjoyable way and helps them improve their skills.
The story of Meşk is rooted in the fact that while we live in a region rich in music tradition, there has been no accessible, technological educational tool specifically developed for learning our own music. The app, based on the traditional master-apprentice system (meşk), offers users a fun learning experience through an interactive interface in a digital environment. The sound technology developed analyzes the user’s sound and provides real-time feedback, helping to correct mistakes in their performance. Through gamification techniques, it offers a hands-on, performance-based learning process rather than focusing on theory, making music learning more enjoyable and engaging.
Meşk provides an opportunity for those who wish to develop their musical hobbies but cannot afford the time for private lessons, enabling them to learn music at their own pace, independent of location and time. Additionally, the app is designed as a helpful tool for those actively pursuing music education.
Professional musicians and educators can also use the app’s special Historical Tuning module to tune their instruments to the original frequencies of renowned musicians like Aşık Veysel and Hacı Taşan.
The first minimal version of the app will be released in the first half of 2020 across all mobile platforms. This version will include the “Bağlama Tuning Module” and the “Historical Tuning Tool”, which will be available to users for free. The full version of Meşk, which is currently in the testing phase, will be available in mobile markets by the second half of 2020.
