27 May ITU Core initiative Kidolog published “Turkey’s Parenting and Psychology Map”
Kidolog, an ITU Çekirdek initiative that provides counseling support with the motto “Online Therapy for Everyone”, shared “Turkey’s Parenting and Psychology Map” for 2023 in the light of its research and data.
According to the report published by Kidolog, which reached 250 thousand members last year, a total of 65,000 sessions were held in 2023. While nearly 40 percent of those who received counseling services were young people between the ages of 24-29, the most demanded category among all users was psychology with 28.5 percent.
In addition, while the rate of those who wanted psychological support increased by 330 percent after the earthquake on February 6, Kidolog provided free support to thousands of people in this process.
The most requested supports are “peer bullying”, “test anxiety and stress” and “sleep problems” Sharing information about the distribution of Kidolog’s consultations in 10 different categories, Uğurelli said: “Among the sessions received, 28.5 percent are psychologists, 22.7 percent are child developers/pedagogues, 18.5 percent are psychological counselors and child psychologists, and 16.9 percent are breastfeeding counselors. According to the information we obtained from the experts we interviewed from different fields, families from different age groups feel more helpless about peer bullying and need support for their children. Peer bullying is usually experienced by children at the age of 3-4 and can continue until high school age. Peer bullying is followed by test anxiety and stress, sleep problems, anxiety, screen addiction and breast rejection.” |
ITU Çekirdek initiative Kidolog, which provides 24/7 expert support to parents and adults in 10 different categories before and after pregnancy, has published Turkey’s Parenting and Psychology Map, which includes research data for 2023. Commenting on the report, Kidolog Co-Founder Eray Uğurelli said, “Turkey’s agenda was quite busy in 2023. The earthquake disaster we experienced as soon as we entered the year and the subsequent events and the election atmosphere affected people individually, even though it may seem social. From the first day of the earthquake, while trying to heal people’s wounds, we also had to close the wounds opened in their souls. During this time, we opened a free panel to our earthquake victims who applied to us and tried to find solutions to the wounds opened in their souls together with our experts. In this direction, we provided free support to thousands of people. In addition to our earthquake victims, there was a 330 percent increase in the rate of those who wanted to get psychological support because the whole country was in shock. As Kidolog, as we have been with people for the last three years, we will be with all members of a family from now on In order to achieve this, we have developed two new mobile applications, which have been available in the app markets in recent months and have started to gain users. In this way, we will be able to protect children between the ages of 2 and 6 from screen addiction and harmful content of the internet more easily. Likewise, another application we have developed for the pawed members of our families offers many features with artificial intelligence support for the care of our pawed friends.”
Interest in online therapy is high
Emphasizing that the interest in online therapy, which seems to be more popular during the pandemic period, is increasing day by day, Uğurelli shared the following data: “It was observed that 63 percent of the clients who made at least one online interview preferred the next interview. We found that this rate reached 82.5 percent in clients who had 4 or more online sessions. In our interviews with our members who have never had a session, 40 percent of them said that they were willing to have an online session but would do it later. Thirty percent stated that they did not want to have a session in any way, and the remaining 30 percent stated that they mainly wanted to meet face to face. In addition, the high awareness of families is among the first things that stand out. As a matter of fact, although it seems that adults take sessions for their own problems in the first place, when we dig deeper, it was determined that 32.6 percent of families consult an expert for their children’s mental health. In addition to child development and psychological counseling, families also invest in their children’s future by taking sessions from psychologists.”
70.7 percent of all Kidolog’s clients are women
Stating that the gender research also revealed important data, Uğurelli said, “70.7 percent of all our clients are women. And 64.4 percent of female clients are mothers. Our female clients start receiving support from the moment they become expectant mothers. In addition, in our interviews with experts, we saw that there was a 40 percent increase in breastfeeding counseling in September. At the same time, with the opening of schools, our experts stated that there were serious increases in issues such as school adaptation processes and peer bullying in September.”
